Hi! I have been working with https://shifton.com/shift-scheduling for several months now and can share my experience. In fact, you can rely on the automatic distribution of shifts of the system if you do not have very specific requirements from employees. Ideally, the shift schedule creator should take into account the preferences of employees, such as time restrictions, wishes to work only on certain days of the week, or, conversely, to avoid working on weekends. However, in practice, when you have many people with different requirements, the system does not always cope. For example, in our company there are several employees who categorically do not want to work night shifts due to family circumstances, and the system does not always take them into account correctly, even if I enter all the data in the employee profiles. I tried to work exclusively on the machine - at first it was convenient, the schedules were generated quickly, but then I noticed that this created problems. Because of this, one of the employees was put on night shifts several times in a row, although this was clearly indicated in his profile as a restriction. And, of course, in such cases, complaints begin, and this leads to a loss of time on re-adjusting the schedule.

I agree with both of you, I also think it is important to combine automatic planning with manual settings. I use Shifton in my team, and I also encountered the fact that the system cannot always take into account such "little things" as time preferences or emergency situations.
